GAP STOW (summer tour out west) is well underway!  We just completed our first weekend of clinics in Louisville, KY on the Lower and Upper Elkhorn. Many thanks to River City Canoe and Kayak for hosting the clinic, and the Davis family for hosting Mary Frances and I!

Saturday was our recreational paddling clinic, and we had an awesome group!  There were smiles and laughs all around as we cruised down the river in the hot Kentucky sun.  We spotted some cool wildlife including turtles, blue herons, and red winged blackbirds, but mostly enjoyed the fabulous company of the ladies from Louisville.

Sunday was our first whitewater clinic, and we  took the group to the Upper Elkhorn.  A few of the ladies from Saturday had such a good time they decided to join Sunday as well!   The river runs through a beautiful area with towering shale cliffs and exposed rock.  In between the exhilarating rapids of the Elkhorn, we were blown away by the beauty of the gorge.  Plus, the river goes right past the Jim Beam Distillery/headquarters!  How Kentuckian!  The group was incredibly fun and supportive, and never stopped cheering each other on!  They were eager to learn, and once we got off the water, already anticipating their next whitewater adventure!  Thanks again Louisville for showing us a great time and allowing us to share the river experience with some fabulous women!

Mary Frances and I are now Colorado bound!   We’ll be teaching next weekend in Durango and hanging out at the Animas River Festival.   Can’t wait to be in the Rocky Mountains!
