This August looks nothing like I imagined, and I can feel my brain tugging me back into an old pattern of being a victim.
I’m supposed to be on the Ottawa right now—paddling with old friends and visiting my parents and siblings. Instead, I’m home while Andrew’s on a three-week paddling trip in northern BC.
Alone time is a comfort zone for me. When I’m by myself, I don’t have to answer to anyone, and I can relax into my goofy, loose side that only a few people ever see. My other comfort zone? Being with folks who’ve known me forever and expect nothing from me. Right now, I’m missing that. And yes, I know a lot of those expectations are self-projected—but they still feel real.
So here’s the question I’m sitting with: How do I stop guarding and let my fun, silly self out more often—and with more people?
When I turned 50, I promised myself I’d bring more energy and fun into my life and share it more widely—not just with my closest people. I was doing OK… and then my injury happened, and the last three months weren’t exactly party vibes.
Now I’m finally turning a corner with healing, and I can feel that energy coming back.
I’ve restarted my mini solo dance parties after my morning PT/yoga/meditation. And while writing this, I posted inside the Mind Body Paddle Community to see who wants to try a once-a-week, one-song dance party together. I literally just hit “post.” We’ll see who jumps in.
Honestly, simply sharing the idea already lifted me. That’s the magic of a good crew: a space where you can be yourself without judgment, where people have your back while you try things that stretch you.
If this resonates—if you miss belonging to an intentional, supportive community—come join us in the Mind Body Paddle Community. It’s $97 for the year through September 1, 2025 (normally $147).
Inside MBPC you’ll find:
Real connection & accountability (so your “someday” doesn’t keep drifting downstream)
Members-only experiences (webinars, prompts, book clubs, playful challenges…like dance parties)
Paddling meetups & a supportive hive mind
A container that helps you practice courage in low-consequence ways—on and off the water
If you’ve been waiting for a sign, this is me, waving from the eddy: come paddle with us. Let’s bring back the energy together.
